'I wanted to marry Laila, but father didn't approve'

`I wanted to marry Laila, but father didn`t approve`

This is what Sonu alias Wafi Khan allegedly told Crime Branch during his recent interrogation

Sonu alias Wafi Khan has reportedly told Crime Branch officials that he was in love with actress Laila Khan and wanted to marry her, but his father was against the match. While being questioned by cops on July 14, Sonu revealed that he was in a relationship with the starlet — now believed murdered along with five relatives — after having met her in October 2010.

According to his statement, Sonu's father Kamal Jadhvani was not happy about the relationship, as his son had spent lakhs of rupees in five months. Also, Laila being older than Sonu by seven years upset Kamal.

Sonu told the police that he married a manager from his own pub at Juhu, after Kamal agreed, on February 12, 2011 at a five-star hotel in the city. Sonu, who has completed his studies from Dubai, claimed he had earlier intended to marry an MTV video jockey, but then he met Laila and fell in love with her. The first meeting between the couple took place at the Qasba hotel in Oshiwara.

As soon as reports came out that Laila was missing, Kamal ordered Sonu to leave the country as he was an acquaintance of the actress and his name could crop up in the investigation. Sonu followed his father's advice, shutting down his pub.

Sources at unit VIII of Crime Branch said they are now questioning Sonu to find out why he got married at around the same time when Laila went missing. "Sonu had fled to Dubai from where he was summoned for questioning. We would also like to know why he fled to Dubai immediately after the news of Laila being missing appeared in the media last August," said an officer.

Crime Branch officials also asked Sonu why he had kept changing his mobile number frequently in the past one year.

Sonu also said that he had fixed up jobs for Laila and her family in Dubai. He had promised a boutique for her mother Saleena Patel, and a job for Imran, Laila's brother, as a mobile company executive. Zara, the actress' sister, was promised stage shows and modelling assignments.

Time to 'pack up' were Rajesh Khanna's last words: Amitabh Bachchan

Time to `pack up` were Rajesh Khanna`s last words: Amitabh Bachchan

"Time ho gaya hai, pack up". Those were Rajesh Khanna's last words, says Amitabh Bachchan in his blog.

Amitabh wrote that a close functionary told him Rajesh's last words in a choked voice Wednesday when he gone to condole the death of India's first superstar at his home Ashirwad.

Amitabh recalled his long experience with Rajesh whom he first saw as the winner of the Filmfare-Madhuri Talent Contest. It was the same contest for which Amitabh also applied the following year but was rejected.

"His film 'Aradhana' was my next meeting with him, at the Rivoli Theatre in Connaught Place in New Delhi, which my mother took me along to see. The packed audience and their reactions to this young handsome man was impermeable," wrote Amitabh.

He said he had left his settled job in Calcutta and gone away from home to seek the possibilities of joining the (film) industry in some other way.

"But one look at Rajesh Khanna made me realise that with people like him around, there would be little chance of opportunity for me, in this new profession!" Amitabh confessed.

Later, when Amitabh was called for 'Saat Hindustani' and travelled to Mumbai for the role, he developed a close friendship with one of the co-stars in the movie, Anwar Ali.

Anwal Ali's brother was the illustrious (comedian) Mehmood with his own very large standing and gave Amitabh an opportunity to get an informal meet at one of the shootings of Rajesh Khanna. "...It was a very formal hand shake and that was it; a routine for him, an honour for me!"

Soon after that, Amitabh was cast opposite Rajesh Khanna in "Anand", which he described was "like a miracle, god's own blessing and one that gave me reverse respect; the moment that anyone came to know that I was working with the Rajesh Khanna, my importance grew. And I gloated in its wake."

During breaks in the shooting of "Anand" Amitabh would go to Delhi and gleefully describe the scenes and dialogues of the movie, as also its music to all whom he met.

"There were no CDs then, just the spooled tapes and getting Hrishida (Hrishikesh Mukherjee) to part with one such for me was an exercise in futility. But I was able to get one and 'Kahin dur jab din dhal jaaye..' played endlessly on my very repair stricken tape recorder," Amitabh recalled.

Amitabh said Rajesh Khanna was simple and quiet, would sit in the front seat of his modest Herald, driven by his Man Friday, Kabir.

"He would attract many visitors on set and was continuously surrounded by them, Hrishi-da permitting! The frenzy and the following he garnered was a sight to behold. In the 1970 era his fans came from Spain to meet him and a most unheard of occurrence then," Amitabh said.

In his trademark Rajesh Khanna kurta-pyjama, he almost always looked the boy next door, one that girls would want to take home to mother, but amidst all this there was a quiet elegance within him, Amitabh added.

"In his boyish plainness there was something that was regal in his demeanor. It was the magnet that attracted others to him - who at times were almost servile to him in nature," Amitabh said.

Grandson Aarav lights Rajesh Khanna's pyre

The last rites of Rajesh Khanna were performed by his grandson Aarav at the Vile Parle crematorium Thursday with family, friends and fans bidding the superstar a tearful adieu.

The actor's nine-year-old grandson thrust a torch into the pyre with the help of his actor-father Akshay Kumar, who is married to Rajesh Khanna's elder daughter Twinkle, and the body of the superstar, who became heartthrob of millions since attaining stardom in 1969, was engulfed in flames.

His last journey generated the same frenzy that he did when he attained stardom in the 1970s.

The legend's final journey started around 10 a.m. from his residence Aashirwad in Bandra. His body, in a transparent casket, was placed on a mini-truck decorated with white flowers and the crowd moved along with it.

Thousands, including the superstar's fans, friends, family and film fraternity members gathered to say a tearful goodbye to Rajesh Khanna, signifying the loss of a great star.

The procession started from his Bandra residence and went through Carter Road, Turner Road and S.V. Road before reaching the crematorium. The original plan was to have a longer procession, but due to rain it was kept short, but it didn't deter his fans, who gathered in huge numbers.

The frenzy was perhaps just what the Bollywood's first superstar had been missing all these years.

It was a farewell that the superstar deserved.

With him on his last journey were his estranged wife Dimple, who took care of him in the last days, his younger daughter Rinke and son-in-law, Akshay. Twinkle was missing from the procession as she is in the family way.

Among the Bollywood big wigs who attended his last rites were Amitabh Bachchan, his successor as superstar, Sudhir Mishra, Rani Mukerji, Karan Johar, Sajid Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vinod Khanna and Aadesh Shrivastava.

Talaash: Aamir to shoot a promotional video featuring Kareena and Rani

While the world talks about their tiff in detail, Aamir Khan to shoot a promotional video with Reema Kagti for their upcoming film

When news came about Aamir Khan's latest film with Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor being postponed, the rumour mills went into a frenzy speculating the probable causes.

While a section of the press reported how director of the film Reema Kagti and Aamir had a fall-out, others spoke about him trying to push the release of the film to after Dhoom 3.

Now, word is that the makers of this film are gearing up to shoot a promotional video towards the end of this month. And our sources say that this move could indicate that all is well between Reema and Aamir.

The source says, "This shows that he is not only happy with the film but also doesn't want to re-shoot any portion. With this song/video, the makers are trying to make a point that all is well among the members of the film and that the film will be releasing on November 30, as was originally scheduled."

Our source adds, "Reema and the crew are preparing to use it like the face of the film. The song will feature Aamir, Rani and Kareena Kapoor."

The song will be composed by Aamir's blue-eyed boy Ram Sampath. Our source also adds that all the three stars will feature in the same frame for the first time ever. The track will be choreographed by Bosco-Ceasar.

'Why only hysterical girls? Even my daadi was crazy about Rajesh Khanna'

`Why only hysterical girls? Even my daadi was crazy about Rajesh Khanna`

Superstar Rajesh Khanna " the man who had a heart as large as his fan following

While trawling through Wikipedia, the online dictionary after a Google search on Rajesh Khanna, the Wiki threw up responses about his hysterical female fan following. Excerpts from the dictionary talk about letters written in blood and queues of hundreds of girls when Rajesh Khanna would be on outdoor location for a shoot.

Three's company: Rajesh Khanna with family

Dinesh Raheja, former Movie magazine editor recalls with a laugh, "Why are you talking about girls? Even my daadi (grandmother) was crazy about Rajesh Khanna. In fact, since he touched my daadi's feet at a wedding years ago, she was never the same."

Dilli-ghtful: Rajesh Khanna in New Delhi, on the campaign trail

Raheja explains, "In a non-professional capacity, I remember seeing Rajesh Khanna shooting years ago, when I was a schoolboy. The unit was shooting at Worli Sea Face. The Sea Face was very different than what it is now.

It was very quiet and there were not too many people, we would cycle on the promenade. That day the Sea Face was teeming with people but Rajesh Khanna remained unfazed. He was very, very protective of his co-star Sharmila, the perfect gentleman really."

Screen ready: Rajesh Khanna does what he did best — act

Schoolboy fascination turned to professional respect. Raheja recalls days in Rajesh Khanna's office "we would talk about a common passion - films, over coffee. He was such an engaging conversationalist. It was said that he could be very difficult but I found him very easy going."

Man for the moment: Rajesh Khanna says his piece like the rockstar he always was

When two superstars walk into a hotel together, one can expect a hi-decibel ego clash. There was none of that when Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna walked into Centaur hotel together for a cover shoot for Movie magazine years ago.

Raheja says, "It took just some time for the ice to thaw. But it did, and they both gave me fantastic interviews and were very complimentary towards each other, which was amazing," ends the current editor of Bollywood News Service.

Political role: Rajesh Khanna with former PM Narasimha Rao

Senior showbiz journalist Chaitanya Padukone says Rajesh Khanna was "a staunch Ganesh follower and often went to Titwala for Ganesh worship. In the latter years, past his heyday, I did notice he had become a trifle irritable and was more impulsive that he was before. He was a man of strong likes and dislikes.

I recall particularly, once I was waiting outside J W Marriott at Juhu, post a film event where Rajesh Khanna was the chief guest. This was more than 10 years ago, I think. There was some kind of public transport flash strike then.

I was standing outside, wondering how to get home, when 'Kaka' came by in his car. He was sitting next to the chauffeur while his secretary sat behind. He asked me with some mirth: 'what are you doing, do you have a date?' I said, 'No there is a strike; I am wondering how to get home'.

He said, no worries and gave me a lift in his car, all the way to Tardeo, while he lived in Bandra! That's the kind of man he was."

Padukone also remembered how once at a party, Rajesh Khanna, "turned up in beard and dark glasses. Youngsters did not recognize him, and I wrote a piece for this paper itself, on how youngsters were ignoring and pushing past a man who their parents must have worshipped. He was very touched by that piece," said Padukone, saying it proved how sensitive he was, beneath that thick-skinned veneer that stars must cultivate if they have to take what is written about them.

Senior film journalist and current editor of Film Street Journal, Bharati Pradhan has warm memories of Kaka. As warm as a hot roti, in fact.

"I knew him so well, so I have so many anecdotes but the one that stands out the most is what a great host Rajesh Khanna was. Once, he invited me to shooting in Chennai. Somebody came home to fetch me and take me to the airport.

He accompanied me on the flight to Chennai, escorted me to the hotel and helped me check in, there: I had a message from Rajesh Khanna saying: welcome to Chennai, I have gone to see a film, when I am back, we will have dinner together. The man only left once Rajesh Khanna came in.

"We had dinner in his suite along with others, and he made sure I had hot rotis while he had cold ones. I even saw he took the cold roti from my plate, put it in his and gave me the hot one. That was his style and his attention to detail. I do not think anyone can match this," signed off Pradhan.

When the arclights are off and autograph books go into oblivion, it is not hits but the little things that one does that are remembered. Today, above gun guna rahe hain bhawrein khil rahi hai kali kali.

'I am alive'
MiD DAY photographer Satyajit Desai recalls going to Kaka's house in February this year, as rumours gained traction that he was no more. Desai, the quintessential, hard-nosed journalist, first called a telephone number belonging to Kaka, while he was outside Rajesh Khanna's home.

To his surprise, Rajesh Khanna himself answered the call and told him, "I am alive, I am having a drink." Desai asked him to step outside for a picture. Kaka, obliged after some persuasion and said, "only two frames," and shooed away the photographer after two pictures. Always the consummate professional.

'Jism 2 is common man's erotica'

Jism 2` is Common man`s Erotic and not for children

Common man 's Erotic Jism 2' clears board exam with an 'A' Pooja Bhatt tweets news of censor board passing Sunny Leone-starrer Erotic thriller "Jism 2" has been passed with an A-certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), says director Pooja Bhatt, who is glad that cuts were only made "upon my discretion".

"'A' certificate received for 'Jism 2'. August 3 here we come! India just got itself an erotic thriller that truly reflects the times," tweeted Pooja.

"Let me also clarify to all my 'well-wishers' that 'Jism 2' has not been affected in the least by the cuts I made 'upon my own discretion'," added the actress-turned-director.

The 40-year-old said the film doesn't target only multiplex audiences, adding she does not make "elite films".

"I don't wish it to be an elite product. I am catering the man on the streets and women who understand 'the erotica'. It is an erotic sensual thriller...," she added.

She clarified that she never wanted children to watch it.

"We applied for an 'A' because I am very clear that I want an 'A' and not a 'U/A'. I am not making the the film for children, it's an adult film for adult sensibilities. The adult audience is a sizeable number and it is big enough for my film," Pooja told.

Talking about the cuts made, she says there were few changes done.

"The censor board asked me to decrease the length of shots at four places or replace it with another one. Three out of which are in songs and one is a scene. One of them is the the song 'Yeh kasoor', which is already out on the internet," she said adding that censor board left the cuts to "director's discretion".

"I think, by saying that they are being rather mature. I made the changes and genuinely felt it made my film more erotic. Otherwise, they did not tampered with a single dialogue or a scene.

"I have not tampered with sensual content at all. I promise, apart from 'Jism' 1, 'Jism 2' will be the most sensual film of our times and I assure that I will deliver that promise," she said.

"Jism 2", releasing Aug 3, is a sequel to the 2003 film, features Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone, with Arunoday Singh and Randeep Hooda.
